Parziale playing in The Masters

The Amateur Golf Alliance would like to wish Matt Parziale from Brockton, MA the best of luck in this week’s Masters tournament. Matt will start his first Masters appearance this Thursday at 8:52am in a group playing alongside Brendan Steele and past-champion Mike Weir. His invitation to The Masters came by way of winning last year’s US Mid-Amateur Championship, a victory that also earned him exemptions into this summer’s US Open and US Amateur.

One aspect of the AGA’s mission is to provide support to exceptional amateur golfers seeking additional opportunities to compete nationally and internationally. Through fundraising efforts the AGA initiated a Player Support Program in 2017 targeting a few players who demonstrated the talent to compete at the top levels of the game. Matt Parziale, who works as a firefighter in the Brockton Fire Department, was one of these players. The AGA provided financial assistance that enabled Matt to add some national events to his schedule, both early in the season before the snow melted in Massachusetts as well as later in the year on venues that would help prepare him for competing in USGA events.

Matt had a wonderful 2017 season that included winning the Massachusetts Amateur Championship and Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament prior to winning the US Mid-Amateur. He told Golf News Net, “I could never have been able to compete at the level I achieved at the U.S. Mid-Am Championship without the help of the Amateur Golf Alliance.” The AGA is pleased to have been able to raise funds to assist exceptional people and amateur golfers such as Matt; he is a wonderful representative for the mid-amateur golf community at this week’s Masters.
