The first round of the Gasparilla Invitational gets started today with a strong field of mid-amateurs and senior amateurs from across the country. This event has a wonderful history as covered in today’s Global Golf Post+ story Gasparilla Invitational Boasts Storied History by Jim Achenbach. Jim details how the Gasparilla started in the 1930s as a professional event and then transitioned to a top-level amateur event with many USGA champions in the field. Coming to present day, Jim states “it is widely agreed that this national-class field will compete on one of America’s most fascinating courses.” Give Jim’s piece a read to learn more about this special event.

The Amateur Golf Alliance is pleased to have entered into a relationship with the Gasparilla Invitational starting for this year’s event. The two organizations are working together to reposition the championship as a more prominent event on the amateur golf calendar by strengthening the field’s depth, increasing the event’s visibility, enhancing WAGR™ points, as well as awarding AGA performance points that are awarded to top finishers.
