Stuart Francis, the next President of the USGA, made a great run at the title in the Super-Senior division of the San Francisco City Championship. Francis shot one-under in stroke play qualifying at TPC Harding Park, host of next year’s PGA Championship. That earned him the two seed and he went on to win several tight matches in clutch fashion before falling in the finals to champion Frank Pieper.

Read all about it in AGA Board Member Jim Nugent‘s writeup from Global Golf Post today. Nugent gives an inside look at how the matches played out and highlights that Francis is not just a golf administrator, but also an accomplished competitive amateur. Francis said “I love competitive golf; it’s the most satisfying endeavor you can undertake.”
