The long-awaited playing of the 2020 AGA Women’s Amateur Championship finally got underway today at The Dye Preserve Golf Club with top women amateurs from across the country participating in this inaugural championship, that was originally scheduled for May. Players were greeted with exceptional course conditions despite locally heavy rains around the area. An afternoon lightning delay brought players off the course for almost two and a half hours, but the field managed to finish round one.
The Championship Division whose eligibility includes any players who no longer have any college eligibility, along with some of the nations most decorated mid-amateurs. Leading after round one is Chelsea Dantonio of East Aurora, NY shooting even-par 72 followed closely by Lauren Greenlief of Ashburn, VA at 1-over-par 73. Three players including Tara Joy-Connelly from Vero Beach, FL, Heather Wall of Plantation, FL and Julia Potter-Bobb of Indianapolis, IN sit at 2-over-par 74.
In the Senior Division, Gigi Higgins of Cape Coral, FL set the standard and low round for the day with a 2-under-par 70. The tournament’s only under par round on day one. Corey Weworski of Carlsbad, CA posted a 1-over-par 73, while Kelly Morris of Franklin, TN sits at 2-over-par 74.
Play will resume tomorrow morning, Friday October 2nd, for the second round with tee times starting at 9:00 am off of Hole #1. Click here for FULL LEADERBOARD
