Public golfers from across the country came to Washington D.C.’s East Potomac Golf Links for the 2nd playing of the National Links Trust Championship. The field comprises men and women who qualified at ten qualifiers nationwide or were exempt through their playing record, including the defending champions in each division. Stephanie Tran proved why she was last year’s champion with an opening round one under and leads the ladies’ division by two after round one over Mia Zanghetti of Washington, D.C.

The men’s defending champion, Tyler McKeever, posted a two-under 70 to sit two back of round one leader Grant Crowell, who posted a solid four-under (68).  East Potomac was a solid test that grouped the field tightly with the top fifteen players at even par or better.

Sunday’s final round will be a shootout to crown a new champion. Winners in both divisions will earn exemptions into several nationally ranked championships in the upcoming 2025 season.

As round two started, the battle came down to two players: defending champion Stephanie Tran and local DC player Mia Zanghetti.  By the turn, Mia had edged one shot ahead and held that through the back nine, but with a birdie-birdie finish, the final total of one under was three clear of Stephanie.  New Yorker Sarah Carbonetti finished alone in third place.

On the men’s side, first-round leader Crowell fired another four under par to finish at minus eight for the tournament.  Max Ullman of Minnesota had the low round of the day of minus five, but a late bogey had him finish at minus seven.  CJ Wagner fired rounds of 69-68 to finish alongside Ullman in a tie for runner-up.  Craig Tronti of Maryland finished alone in fourth at four under.
