The final round of the AGA Amateur Women’s Championship was played in the best weather yet for the tournament, maybe not the “Sunshine State’s” advertised weather but certainly an improvement over the first two rounds.  With drier conditions players were able to focus more on scoring than managing the elements.

With top caliber players atop the leaderboard the chasers had to make up some ground.  In the Championship Division the final group had past US Women’s Mid-Amateur Champions fighting to claim the winner’s trophy.  Lauren Greenlief of Ashburn, VA Entered the day with a comfortable six shot lead but playing partners Julia Potter-Bobb, of Indianapolis, IN, and Chelsea Dantonio, of East Aurora, NY, both chipped away to cut the lead to three but Greenlief settled into a solid back nine not giving the field a real chance.  In the end, Lauren’s three-over-par 75 proved to be enough to win the Inaugural AGA Women’s Amateur Championship.  Julia Potter-Bobb’s even-par 72 was good enough for a stand-alone second place finish.  First round leader Chelsea Dantonio played solidly all week and her one-over-par 73 proved to be good enough for solo third place.  Linda Jeffrey, of Prattville, AL and Amanda Jacobs from Portland, OR both fired one-under-par 71s to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Senior Division, the leader after two rounds Gigi Higgins, of Cape Coral, FL, ran into some trouble on the back nine which opened the door for Amy Ellertson from Free Union, VA.  Ellertson’s solid play from the start of the day began to put some pressure Higgins.  When the final putt fell Ellertson had completed the comeback with a round of two-over-par 74, netting her a two-stroke victory.  Higgins’ final round eight-over-par 80 was still good enough for a second place finish.  Tara Fleming from Jenson Beach, FL posted an even-par 72 to finish third.  Corey Weworski traveled from Carlsbad, CA and made the trip worthwhile shooting a final round three-over-par 75 and finishing alone in fourth place.  Susan Curtin of Westwood, MA shot even-par 72, which moved her up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth with Julie Harrison of Barton Rouge, LA.
